Te Whare Ra, Toru White Blend 2022

Meaning "The House in the Sun" in Maori, Te Whare Ra is a family run winery on New Zealand's South Island. Headed up by husband-wife duo Jason & Anna Flowerday, they have been making organic wines since 2003. Toru 2022 is an off-dry (slightly sweet) blend of 64% Gewürztraminer, 24% Riesling and 12% Pinot Gris; it has a really intriguingly aromatic nose of lychee, ginger and honeysuckle; followed with a very complex, multi-layered palate of juicy mango, orange zest and green apple. The finish has a lively mineral edge but doesn't depart from the classic creamy texture you would expect from this particular blend of grapes. It's a cracking wine to pair with rich aromatic dishes, especially Thai food.
